Novak: Russia may link unified gas system with Far East, Siberia

ST. PETERSBURG, Jun 17 (PRIME) -- Russia may link its Unified Gas Supply System with some natural gas pipelines in the Far East and Eastern Siberia within several years, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said in an interview to NTV television channel broadcast late on Thursday.

“We’ve decided to link our Unified Gas Supply System with the eastern system … I mean the gas pipelines that are located in the eastern part of Russia, linking the resource base of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District, the Tyumen Region, and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District with the eastern resource base of the Irkutsk Region and the Krasnoyarsk Region,” he said.

This should increase the amount of gas produced in the East and improve the gas infrastructure of the Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, and Zabaikalsky regions and the republic of Buryatia. These investment projects will be huge, but Russia can implement them in several years, he said.
